Hope in the Word

Psalm 119 is all about the Word of God.  I am told that this psalm has been used to teach Jewish children the Hebrew alphabet by having them memorize the entire psalm.  You will notice that each section of eight verses has a heading in our English Bibles that is a letter in the Hebrew alphabet.  There are 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet, therefore 176 verses in the psalm.  And each verse says something about the Word of God.  I understand that, in Hebrew, each verse begins with the corresponding letter of the alphabet.  What a great tool for learning; a psalm all about the Word of God!

One verse in particular catches my eye this morning:  I rise before dawn and cry for help; I wait for Your words (Psalm 119:147).  The key here is that we need help and that help is to be found in God’s…
