The Best Bestsellers

Political agendas, gossip, ethics, vampires, hornets, dragons, liberty, teenage lust, middle-age, suburban sprawl, and society.  What do they all have in common?

These represent a portion of the covered topics among the top 10 bestselling books of 2010—as taken from Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com. My question, “Why?”

What is the nation of book-readers most interested in?  The lists include fiction and non-fiction alike, that much is certain.  According to one marketing chart, however, the top three genres being perused are thrillers, horrors, and romance.  I suppose that’s why most every major media station and national headline is shouting Schwarzenegger’s spree from sea to shining sea.  Where several topics share common traits, the likelihood that more interest will be captured is heightened.

Let’s go back to making a simple switch. The best-selling book of all time contains these topics already mentioned, and more. Yes…even vampires (Gen. 9:6).
